Located
in Aiken County, South Carolina, Camp Gravatt offers boys and girls a
Christian-centered, community-based summer camp experience, focused on
demonstrating God's unconditional love to every camper. Reach Out Camp (ROC) is a special
session offered free of charge through community partnerships and the generosity
of individual donors and volunteers to children in second through ninth grade
with one or more parent incarcerated.
The
Camp Gravatt program and activities include most of the traditional things
associated with camp--archery, arts and crafts, canoeing, hiking, swimming,
challenge course, campfires, songs, skits, as well as time for worshiping and
developing camp community. A chaplain will be on hand throughout the session to
help children who are having a difficult time dealing with the stress of having
a parent in prison.
For
all activities, the philosophy at Camp Gravatt is to provide a fun, rewarding
experience for each camper. Camp Gravatt staff members work to nurture and
develop campers' self-esteem, rather than their competitive expertise in a
particular sport or skill. The goals of the camp experience are for campers to
grow spiritually, make friends, share in an affirming, Christian camp
community, and have a lot of fun in a safe and healthy outdoor environment.
Registration
is taken on a first come, first served basis through referrals from local
service and law enforcement agencies. This opportunity is available only
through the generous donations of community supporters. Click here to learn how you can help support ROC.
