The Bishop Gravatt Center

Each year Archdeacon Fred Byrd announces the recipients of the Bishop's and Archdeacon's Trophy for Outstanding Staffers - one male and one female. Criteria include participation in total camp life, setting a good example in word and deed, being supportive of staff and a team player, putting campers first always, living as a Christian, and going the extra mile. This year's recipients are Charlotte Gantt and Jake Chesser, pictured below with executive director Lauri Yeargin and Father Byrd.

Charlotte served her second year on staff as a counselor. She is a sophomore at Wofford College and member at Grace, Camden. Her fellow staff members said about Charlotte, she "commits every waking moment to excellence in her job," "is a true leader for the staff," and "is a selfless, extremely driven counselor who embodies what it means to put the campers first."

Jake served his third year on staff, and second as head male counselor. Jake is a junior at Clemson University. About him, his fellow staffers say, Jake "is a solid leader, friend, and counselor," "is willing to sacrifice," and "builds up others with a positive attitude and high energy."

A second big announcement was made at this year's staff closing. Hope Spruell will serve as camp director for next year's summer camp. Hope grew up in summer camping and has been on Camp Gravatt's staff for two summers, developing the CIT Leadership Development program and restructuring the Junior Counselor program. Lauri Yeargin will continue to serve as executive director, focusing more on development and growth of Gravatt as a whole. Hope will begin her new role in September.
